Innocence

It was a sunny day after a couple days of clouds, wind and rain. Mazzy wanted to send her friends an invitation to something. She handmade the invitations with a couple pieces of scrap paper, blue crayon and stickers from her sticker book.

::::

Mazzy: Mama, I need to send my friends their invitations.

Me: Okay, Maz.

Mazzy: Maaaamaaa, now. I need to float them in the sky like Strawberry Shortcake does.

Me: Max will want to follow you and it's almost his naptime. Let's keep them in a safe place and when he goes down we can send them.

Mazzy: That's a good idea, Mom. Mom, Max needs to take a nap now.

Me: Ten minutes, Maz. Max is playing nicely right now.

10 minutes pass. I open the door after putting Max down and here Mazzy stands with both invitations in her hands.

Me: You ready, Maz?

I proceed to the sliding glass door.

Mazzy: My friends don't live that way, Mom. They have to fly from the front. This waaaaaay, Mom!

She walks to the garage door. I open the door and she points to the side door. We make our way to the side yard.

Mazzy: This is okay, Mom. Mama, why it's not windy? We need wind.

Me: I don't know babe. Maybe the sky is all out of wind from the storm?

Mazzy: Maaaamaaa! How I send my invitations?

::::

This seems like just an ordinary scene between mother and child, although, at that moment, I could not remember loving the innocence of my child any greater. My heart was so full. There were so many reasons I felt tremendously grateful that she was our child. That we chose to have children. That she came into our lives and graced us with her presence, her heart, and her innocence.
